Some of the main strategies that I found useful for both my writing and reading was highlighting the main topics and quotes from the authors as I asked questions about specific details and topics they continued to talk about. This phase in my active reading led right into my brainstorming strategies which included organizing my quotes I discovered in the previous step. I started writing down all my initial thoughts on my reading and giving my own thoughts and possible pathways to take my writing. After this beginning steps in the recursive writing process leads to the drafting strategies which is where the “meat” of the essay is created. Some of my favorite and most important strategies in this step is creating a loose structure to begin separating ideas and quotes into different categories. This allows a clear view at every detail and evidence used as well as how it relates to the main topic. The next step, the revision strategies, really goes hand in hand with the polishing strategies. This involves going over a rough draft and through comments and a clearer understanding of what is expected to go advance a rough draft. However this process is not nearly complete without spell check and the last read through to make sure the essay is as comprehensive and thorough as possible. Using the recursive writing process is the best way in my opinion to make well structured, detailed, and professional pieces of writing.
